A Special Commission

I have been asked to help out with a couple of cards for someone special. This special lady is about to have her 102nd birthday...yes 102nd!!!

Just imagine what changes she has seen in her lifetime!

With the onset of age it is perhaps not at all surprising that her eyesight is not what it once was, so my brief was NO PASTELS, favourite colour blue....

I have enjoyed creating these cards because the brief of NO PASTELS has forced me to use colours that I perhaps wouldn't normally have turned to. I quite like the results and I very much hope that she can see the details well enough to like them too.

June is so busy....

We seem to have way too many birthdays etc in June for our family....I struggle to keep up really.
This post is for My Husbands Birthday and also his great nephew's birthday.
This is the card for Kevin's birthday. I usually theme the card to match in with the present, but this year he is having a new wedding ring as the original is too small, and a bread-making cookery course. Neither of which lent themselves too readily to a card them...so I hope he will like this one. Made using Stampin Up wood planks embossing folder which gives a really deep impression and also using their Nailed It stamp set and dies.

This card is for Thomas. The dog's face is decoupaged to give dimension. This is really a box card from Hunky Dory. I like the images used for the animals in the kit, but when made as intended the boxes are a bit underwhelming in my opinion, so I adapted it.
See you again soon!

A Birth and a Birthday....

My Daughter's Partner's Brother and his Wife (hope you followed that!) have just had a beautiful baby girl. I have made a book for my Daughter to give them.

Also a card from us to welcome Baby Elsie. This was inspired by a design I saw on Pinterest.

Next week is my Husbands Birthday and also, on the same day, my Son's Partner has a birthday. She likes anything Oriental, so that was obviously my theme, but I wanted it to be modern. The lady on the card is decoupaged to add dimension, which doesn't show very clearly here. The image came from  Crafters Companion Kimono CD.

Just for anyone who might have missed the announcement on Quirky Crafts Challenge Blog, the blog is taking a break for a while due to Cazzys personal circumstances. Hopefully the blog will start up again in the Autumn, meanwhile I will try to be a good blogger and post regularly.

Quirky Things With Wings

It's Jane's turn to set the challenge them today, and she has chosen Quirky Things With Wings.
We are being sponsored for this challenge by Limited Runs Digital Stamps and Bugaboo Digital Stamps.

My first make is using MiniBirdsCake4 from Limited Runs. I thought this was a great image for cards for young and old, boy and girl. Coloured with Specrum Noir pens.

My second card is made using BirdTrioSummer from Bugaboo Stamps. This is a very Quirky Bird image and I love it! I collected together my chosen pens to colour the image....and realised that the file also comes with a pre coloured image. That used all the colours I had chosen so I used the pre coloured image. I took it into Craft Artist, resized and printed several copies. A bit of cutting and matting later and I think I have a really "happy" card. Would be good for Birthday, Get Well, Thank you...anything really.

If you have an idea for a Quirky Thing With Wings project come to the challenge blog, upload your project, and let us all have a look. You might win some images from our sponsors.

Quirky Crafts Challenge - Mid Month Reminder

The month is flying by, as usual. I just want to remind you of my challenge which is half way through on Quirky Craft Challenge Blog. This means you only have two weeks left to link your creations inspired by a favourite song. Click here to see the original post and challenge and sponsor details.
Using a digi chosen from our second sponsor Delicious Doodles I have made a twist and pop card. I love doing this shape card. As soon as I saw the lovely Iris image on the Delicious Doodles site I was immediately reminded of many a day playing in my Auntie's garden when I was small. Only a small garden, but she always had lots of Iris plants underneath her lounge window. I loved them and have Iris in my garden now because of that memory. Hope you like the card.

Quirky Crafts Challenge 3- Going For A Song

Hello,

I am quite excited because it is my first change to choose the theme for the next challenge since rejoining the Design Team. I wanted to come up with something that would get you all thinking, so I would like you to show us your creations that have been inspired by your favourite songs.

As usual we have some sponsors for the theme...which means there are prizes to be won, so head on over to the Quirky Crafts Challenge Blog to find out what you can win.

Our sponsors are Ike's Art Digital Designs and Delicious Doodles, both of them have some beautiful designs to choose from.

My first record choice was easy for me, it has been one of my favourites for years. When I was expecting my first child Simply Red released a song called "For Your Babies". When my daughter was born, just after the song was released, I used to sing her to sleep with this......I am surprised she turned out so normal come to think of it!
Looking through the designer's websites to choose an image to work with, this lovely image from Ike's Art leapt out at me and reminded me of that song. Hope you like it.

Check out the challenge blog and see what the other design team members chose to work with and why....you could even enter something and win!

Mid month challenge make...

Apologies to anyone who checked in here yesterday when the post should have gone live.....BLOGGER STRIKES AGAIN. I had typed the post and scheduled it, but Blogger just published a blank page! Helpful!

Anyway here is my mid challenge make. Coloured with a trim noir and using a Pink Petticoat paper for background, this is an inmate from the Animals and Insects set from the Cutting Cafe used last time.....love these cute images.

April Quirky Crafts Challenge

It is time for a new challenge over at Quirky Crafts Challenge Blog.
We have The Cutting Café as sponsor this challenge and the theme has been set by Tinz, she has chosen Quirky Pets. There was so much to choose from on The Cutting Café site that I am not sure how she managed to come to a decision choice at all!

From Tinz's choice I have selected some one of the images from the animals and bugs set...they are all so cute. I decided to make a door hanging for a child.

I designed a box frame sized to suit using Silhouette Studio and cut the pieces using my Cameo. I also made the lettering that way.
I took the image I had chosen into Craft Artist, resized it and printed multiple copies which I then cut out using my Scan and Cut.
I coloured the images using LePlume pens and decoupaged them up to give dimension.

Mother's Day

For UK readers it is Mother's day this weekend.
I have done the usual present and card thing, but thought I would do something extra this year. I am into bookfolding (my latest craze) so I thought I would do one for Mum. It is safe to post because she doesn't have any access to the internet at all.

This is not quite finished as I am waiting for some lovely brass book corners to arrive from Ebay. I hope they get here before Sunday. Then I just need to cello-wrap the book and I am done.

We also have a birthday in the family. One of our Great Nephew's

A couple of birthdays...

Just a couple of birthdays cards to show you. The first is for my Sister-in-Law, who is into her sewing so this Lori Whitlock file was perfect.

The second is for a friend who has a birthday very soon. This uses the Bloom With Hope stamp set from Stampin-Up.

Quirky Crafts Challenge Blog Is Back!!!!

What seems like a long long time ago I was asked to become a member of a design team for the Quirky Crafts Challenge Blog. After being a member of the team for quite a while illness, and life in general, got in the way and I had to step down. But now the challenge blog is returning and I am back on the team. ( doing a happy dance here while I type).

Cazzy set the first challenge and I was stumped straight away. She decided to make the challenge "Use a photo"...
What's the big deal about that? Well as someone who HATES having their photo taken I rarely take photos myself...so if I have to choose a favourite photo I don't have many to choose from.
It just happened that the setting of this challenge coincided with the anniversary of my lovely Maggie passing, and I cherish every photo I have of her....so that was it, decision made.
We need to use a digi image from Bugaboo who are co sponsors of the challenge, along with Crafty Ribbons. I chose to work with Flower Tag 1. I took the image into Craft Artist, recoloured it and turned it into an intelligent frame so I could snap my photo behind it. Hope you like...
